A Few Healthy Habits To Live By

Whenever I read magazines or talk to experts in their field, I tend to study them like a hawk. I always want to be learning new tips/tricks to add to my daily routine. Im just full of useful information, but also a lot of not-so-useful information:) It helps me to build good, healthy habits for myself and have some interesting tidbits for others. When I was in the airport yesterday, I noticed myself taking the stairs verses the escalator…a tip I read somewhere!

So, I thought I would compile a list of my favorite Healthy Habits that have become ingrained in me and maybe they will become a part of you also. Why not, it’s healthy right?!?

Healthy Habits    Taking the Stairs

I don’t have stairs that I have to go up everyday (at work or at home) but whenever I’m out and about, I take the stairs. Choosing to take the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator is a great way to get your butt, thighs, and other muscles you don’t normally use in action. Keeping your mind set on staying active (even by something as little as taking the stairs), will keep you want to do other things to engage muscles and burn calories. Why not try taking two steps at a time?

Add Red Food to Your Diet

And I’m not talking food that has been dyed red. I’m talking beets, red peppers, red cabbage, red grapefruit, tomatoes, pomegranates, etc. Colorful food will not only add brilliant color to your plate (great for dinner parties), but they are packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Pomegranates are  high in vitamin C, B5 and potassium, while beet juice contains nitrates that relax blood vessels. I used to hate beets but I gave them a chance and now they are one of my favorite foods. Try this recipe and maybe you’ll like them too! Drink Your Water Cold

I love water, but I know some people have a hard time drinking it. For me, I like to drink my water cold and there is a real benefit to drinking cold water. Your body will work hard to warm the water that you guzzle cold so in turn, that burns calories. Now, it’s not a crazy amount of calories but drinking cold water will fill your belly and make you feel full and keep you hydrated. Plus, water is just good for you all around. If you don’t like drinking water, add some natural infusion with fruits or herbs. Try this recipe for a yummy Clementine Chamomile Lavender Water in an infuser water bottle. It may help steer you away from sugary drinks.


Healthy HabitsFriendly Health Kick

Friends are there for you no matter what and having that support system while you’re trying to be healthy or on a diet could be key to your success. Why do you think exercise classes are so popular? Seeing others work hard for a goal motivates us to do the same. Clue your girlfriends into your health/fitness goals and maybe you’ll motivate them to do the same. Try inviting them to your favorite Barre class, have them over for a delicious healthy meal or challenge them with the  30 day Plank Challenge we have going on right now.
